Now this is something new. Thrash from Brazil!! Being a big thrash head, I'm much more used to some good German headbanging or some Bay area pounding, USA. I think it's also a first to hear clean vocals from down there, being used to the likes of the legendary Max and Brujeria. Brazil's Scars have been around for quite some time going back to 1991, so why haven't we heard these guys? They're awesome! “The Nether Hell” is a six song ep centering on the Dante's Inferno classic, which must be popular there since the new Sepultura also centers on that very same story. But, Brazilian Thrash? F**k yeah!!!

“Creatures That Come Alive In The Dark” introduces us to this force with some speedy ass kicking Thrash, which I thought from the onset, must be German. I've been getting some good German stuff lately to review and I just thought Scars was too, before I researched. This stuff kicks ass and I'm not surprised by that, cause I love the heavy Brazilian shit and always have. But, kick ass Thrash? “Warfare” does give a bit of a Max Cavelera type accent if you listen real hard and the rhythms are fast and furious with some awesome leads mixed in. Real tight too. Like old Sepultura tight. “Nether Hell” slows down the fury just a bit, but the heavy melody is awesome headbangin', hair flyin', fist pumping stuff and is over six minutes of it. “Legions” returns to more speedy Thrash and furious drum kicking. “Return to the Killing Ground” is more of a stomper with good leads and “Hidden Roots Of Evil” trades the Thrash off for a more of a Death sound, almost Swedish style. Almost.

My only hope is that someone will sign these guys and get them in the studio and produce an awesome full length. The Germans are still stronger than ever and still own the Thrash realm, but I'm sure Mille and Tom Angelripper will be digging this shiiiiaaattt!!! If they aren't already.
