CHAINSNAP „s/t”

CHAINSNAP „s/t” - okładka

Chainsap hails from Wisconsin and their self-titled first release is a three song EP.

God’s Breath has an industrial feel with clear baritone vocals that at times breaks into a “Cookie Monster” death metal feel. The biggest downfall this song has is its use of cymbals. It tends to be annoying and probably because of the fact that they were brought to the front during the recording process which I would guess was due to poor production than done intentionally.

Death by Deception starts with a “fingernails on chalk” style scream that raises the hair on the back of your neck. I would guess that if the hairy mythical beast “Big Foot” had a howl this is what it would sound like. The song obviously is about lies and corruption and the lyrics repeat it over and over with death metal vocals and to make it worse, it is replete with an adjective that begins with the letter “F”, gets old very quickly.

Wanted Soul (easily the best song on the CD) starts with a  pre-recorded piece of a British comedian talking about watching a guy tapping his cigarette’times and counting the last ten. This same comedian pops in during the song and then at the end with witty comments that have nothing to do with the song. This songs sounds like a harder edge Pearl Jam and the vocals are the slam dunk of Eddie Vedder.

In conclusion, the band has some great song writing and musicianship abilities and they are probably a great live band. This CD just fails to capture that potential

note: 5/10
