Among the hordes of the “brutal” in the underground today Decrepit Birth are one of the few acts who embody both aural savagery and attention to composition. The frantic technical diversity of the string work and arrangements of Sotelo and Boyer overwhelm the intellect while appealing to a bestial level of the human psyche. The phsychotically controlled blast tyranny of drummer Tim Yeung and the throat-splitting guttural intones of Bill Robinson are the perfect compliment to the aforementioned string physchosis. The occasional groove/drag riff greatly intensifies the effect of the faster more tech. riffs. My only critique is that they should use them more, employing restraint to envenom the storm surge they construct so well. Overall, “Inensity” would be a severe understatement. This release is a fearsome testament to ferocious musicianship that should don a warning label.
