Formed in 1988, Sparagmos quickly began to make a name for them selves by performing at small local shows throughout Poland. By 1991 the band had already recorded their first demo entitled “Mortal Organic Remains,” no less then a year the later Sparagmos had signed to Metal Mind Productions, and began work on a full-length album. Invitation From Host Of Wrath was released in 1992, and was followed by a multi year tour around Poland. In 1995 the band broke all ties with Metal Mind Productions. By the time 1996 came around Sparagmos had recorded another demo called “Lunar Darma” after which the band again signed with Metal Mind Productions again. Several years past and work began on the bands next album “Conflict” which was released in 1998. Four years later, after many months of work “Chronic” is released.

Chronic opens with an extremely strange ballad entitled “Stress” that will have you wanting to run for cover in a matter of seconds. Stress has to be one the worst songs that I have ever heard in my life, the guitars are horrible as are the vocals. The sad part about “Chronic” is that it just keeps getting worse, and worse as it progresses. Tracks like “Now A Rzecz” and “Priest Of Hate” just continue to reinforce how horrible this release really is. The drums and guitars that are on these two tracks are just plain rancid in sound. Reinkarnacje Kukly is the song that brings “Chronic” to a close in a very cool way. This is the only track on the album that I like; I just love how the drums move along with the guitars on this song. But what's really cool about “Reinkarnacje Kukly” is where the violin shows its face at the end of the song.

Sparagmos is too experimental for there own good, therefore I cannot recommend that “Chronic” become part of your music collection.
