RUNNING TIME: 46.39

I feel very honoured this year as I have had the chance to hear some stunning albums all from different scenes within the metal spectrum. We’ve had Dagoba, Darkness Remains and now the very special Klimt 1918.

I bought this album after reading one very small review in a magazine and I am not at all disappointed as it is one of the year’s undiscovered gems. The band hails from Italy and this album was recorded well over a year ago. It is a shame that it wasn’t released earlier.

What we have here is a very soothing album. Make no mistake, it is still metal but not like Machine Head or Pantera. Klimt 1918 have a very unique sound but to give you some idea of what they sound like, imagine a mellower Katatonia. The beautiful guitar lines are present and the drumming is also rather special and well up in the mix so that drum freaks like myself can actually hear what is being played.

What makes this album so good however is the vocals. They are quite simply sublime. They carry each one of the songs and the mans range is amazing. I’m sure that even if there wasn’t any music, the vocals would sound beautiful on their own.

Track 4 “we don’t need no music” is partly sung in Italian and is stunning in the atmosphere it creates. I get goose bumps every time I listen to it and I’ve had it for some time.

Obviously I can’t make you all go out and buy this, but if I could, I would, as more people need to hear it to understand it. This is a seriously talented group and I wait with anticipation to hear where they go next.
