PSYCROPTIC „The Scepter Of The Ancients”

Here it is, the second full-length Psycroptic album. The thunderous death metal squad from Van Diemen's Land, the island separated from the southern tip of Australia. It is now known as Tasmania. But Van Diemen's Land is a much more enchanting and mystical title so I think I'll stick to it… So let it be known, Van Diemen's Land's Psycroptic are about to destroy your stereo with an onslaught of grade-A death metal flavoured with a sprinkle of thrashy goodness.

Psycroptic snatch your attention straight away with the opening track's sinister thrashy-death qualities. Before long, you can't help but feel enthralled by everything coming through your speakers. The drumming is magical, the vocals are versatile and downright demonic, and the guitars will leave a mass of dropped jaws in their wake. One of the most impressive features of Psycroptic is the lyrics. They are much more intelligent and entertaining than the standard death metal lyric. Instead of writing lyrics about all the carnivorous fantasies one could conjure up, Psycroptic have taken a more fantastical approach. Inviting the listener to embark on a Psycroptic driven journey of far away lands as opposed to the stereotypical gore munching beastly feast styled subject matter. I suppose you could call this death metal with sophistication and class.

So in conclusion Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have the opportunity to purchase this album, do it. It is well worth your hard earned money. I'm not sure how difficult it will be to obtain outside Australia, although they have recently signed with Unique Leader for world wide distribution. Regardless of whether it will be difficult to find or not, the bottom line is that this is an essential album for death metal heads and metal heads alike, this is fresh stuff. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
