I am going to be flagellated by the Kanwulf adorers but I find him to be THE single most overrated Black Metal artist around. Yes 'Herbstleyd' was quite good, but the rest of Kanwulf's back catalogue is plain old boring and repetitive. After a few listens to any of his records you can determine that:
a.He is quite apt in creating an atmospheric record
b.He is pissed off
c.He is still pissed off
Fair enough. But why does this have to be repeated over and over again? In reality 'Geliebte Des Regens' is probably Nargaroth's most 'daring' release using instruments like the didgeridoo and the alternate version of 'Wenn Sie Schläft', which is the best thing on the album. OK, so I lied, this is not that bad. The tracks manage to capture your interest every now and again and you can't really notice the extremely repetitive riffing thanks to point a. mentioned before.
It's unmistakably Nargaroth but it's definitely not his finest hour. 'Herbstleyd' is THE record to go for if you want to check out Nargaroth. 'Geliebte des regens' is decent but sadly not more than that and even the most ardent Kanwulf idolators should really agree with me on that.
