ACID DRINKERS „Broken Head”

I’ve followed this Polish band since the early 90’s and I found their music amusing and funny back then. They have always had a slightly twisted humor as well as a corny image. One could say that this band is some sort of metal circus. During the last years they have become more influenced by more modern metal (earlier it was mainly sleazy rock and thrash metal). I lost track of them some 2 albums ago but I think that their previous album was pretty much Sepultura influenced.

Well, over to the new album: 8 tracks of average material with some glimpses in the form of great riffs. The greatest influence this time seems to be the latest incarnation of Machine Head. Well there are also some references to punk/ hardcore as well as At The Gates but they come as a bonus. Do you know the Belgian band Channel Zero? I guess that they sound pretty similar…

The weakest part of the Drinkers’ music has always been the vocals. Although they are not as humorous as before (the lyrics still are) they are perhaps even worse now. The guy doesn’t know how to sing: he’s not tough enough for the screaming part and he can’t sing in a melodic way and then you always have his Polish accent to annoy you.

note: All in all: 7/10
