WINTERMOONSHADE is a strong gust of wind coming from Portugal, created somewhere around 2020, inspired by nature and spirituality, which blows only from dusk till dawn…
After the first album from 2020, simply entitled “WinterMoonShade”, it is time for the next blow of the musicians’ work. And so in 2022 the Spanish label Art Gates Records will soon (February 25) release the album “Eternal Haunted Shores”…
The band lists various musical inspirations. Indeed, I can clearly hear the influence of the early MOONSPELL (this predatory melody, passages of dark-melancholic clean guitars, melodic climatic solos, but without these clean singing, but only with the predatory screams), as well as the like elements of WARDRUN (for example, the schemes of warlike drums, mystical feminine and male melodeclamations, dark sounds of nature) and I will add my own associations with BATHORY (especially the destructive, blasting Scandinavian licks, so typical of the early BATHORY’s period, and those sublime, powerful and epic Black Metal riffs, known from the mid-period of the band)…
The compositions are dark, and although they come from hot Portugal, they strongly blow the northern chill. And the distorted bass guitar adds more force and might. Some musical themes and melodies arouse very emotional, bring you into a rebellious mood or alternatively, into some depression.
“Eternal Haunted Shores” is an interesting combination of North and South, frosty and full of fury Scandinavian Black Metal with bloodthirsty, animal Iberian Black Metal.
While listening to the music (that is, the sound of distorted guitars) and focusing your ears strongly, you can hear some crackling. I do not know if this is a mistake in writing the disc, or if it is an imitation of vinyl’s crackles.
