Belarusian ALFAR exists because of one person. Dmitry Pinchuk is responsible for everything, and “Twilight of the Gods” is his second album. Well, the title of the album is very risky, because it is already booked for the legendary Black / Epic / Viking Metal – BATHORY. It’s the same if someone could record own album and could titled it “Kill ’em All”. In the metal community are some legendary albums, whose titles are like a mantra – constantly articulated by millions of fans, referring to special bands. So it was not a prudent move. But let there be (because now this is fact)… so I try to focus on the music…

The climatic folk acoustic intro in style of music like from Medieval ages began the album. The second track revealed the majestic and heavy guitar riffs decorated by samples of male choirs. This actually associated with viking albums of BATHORY. However, these were probably the only inclination for this great band, because the next phrases belonged to barbaric melodic Death Metal, very energetic, predatory and of course with a large dose of climate guitar solos and licks of Heavy Metal. Throaty singing or rather scream accompanied the music throughout the album. The vocals enhance the level of wildness and heaviness in relation to the atmospheric guitar melodies, which appear in every song.

The last song starts with a melodic chords (without the “metal distortion”), like in style of Neo-Folk with strong passages of percussions rhythms and with the accompaniment of “males chorus”… And after a while this music goes into a typical for ALFAR melodic Viking Metal. This song also made the associations with BATHORY.

The album sounds pretty epic and majestic. This majesty also is emphasize by the spatial solos and the sounds of keyboards in backgrounds, which imitate the males choirs, as well as the monumental nostalgic slowing downs. Generally the music is proper and it is well composed. However, it does not bring anything innovative, but rather it follow the beaten trail known by many Viking Metal hordes.
