More and more teams are moving away from traditional species of widely understood Rock for various types of fusion. Perhaps this is another step in the evolution of Rock as a result of greater openness of musicians and their fans… But SKW is not a young team, because the band was formed almost 15 years ago from an even older Italian band SKYWALKER… SKW's third album – “Numbers” is another album signed by the Italian label Alkemist Fanatix Europe. Unfortunately SKW waited many months in the queue for review. In addition, SKW is the next team with a strange name. Some time ago I reviewed a band called SHW. But it is only coincidental resemblance. Although the SKW also revolves around the Rock style. The fact is that their music is most similar to Grunge… So it is the dark climate of Rock with the quarrelsomeness, the melancholy and a the pinch of Metal's heaviness as well as with the Hardcore's influences.
The gently predatory, darkly-melancholic vocals, the short melodic guitar solos, the calm guitar passages and the dark bass's accents sound among the heavy guitar sets and the balanced rhythms . Even the whole sometimes goes to the areas of Thrash Metal, reminding the melodies of MATALLICA from albums “Load” and Re-Load “) or to dynamic Hardcore's zone.
After all, the music and the climate are most similar to themes of Grunge. But are in typical Grunge the lower-tuned guitars? And it makes that sound of SKW is strong and deep sometimes is even in style of Nu Metal. Especially that musicians often use combinations of the rhythmic muted riffs with the melodic phrases and the delicate samples and the keyboards (these all are typical for Nu Metal). A in the last track the musicians vented for their electronic manifestations which made that remix-song “Hate3” sounded like a song of MARILYN MANSON.
SKW curiously combined the Grunge's melancholy and the gloom with the heaviness and dynamics of Nu Metal.
