Russia is a huge country that hides innumerable bands of various genres. However I seldom have the opportunity to hear something from this country. But what I heard, this time – it is really splendid. Now I just look for this type of sounds – heavy and also melodic as well as climatic. Already at the beginning of album – the motive of female singing (with the Russian lyrics) on the background of crushing riffs took my attention. Although the woman's singing is just a supplement to this mixture. Not without reason in the past, the band collaborated with people like Jens Bogren (producer of OPETH, SOILWORK, PARADISE LOST and AMON AMARTH) and Dan Swano (EDGE OF SANITY, NIGHTINGALE), which has even lent his voice.
I think it's not hard to guess that DEMON PROJECT presents a modern approach to Death Metal. The heavy crushing and motor riffs of guitars interact with keyboards passages and samples with the help of a wide range of vocals (from the dark growls through singing phrases). The variety of themes are here a lot in which the aggression and the violence are interspersed with the melancholy. In addition, DEMON PROJECT offers many climatic keyboard-guitar-vocal's melodies and instrumental accents as well as frequent changes of tempo, progressive licks and ambient-folk inserts .
Taking into the above – here we can hear inspirations of EDGE OF SANITY, SOILWORK… The album is unearthly, very emotional, dark, angry, predatory but nostalgic at the same time, ethnic and cosmic. The musicians clearly infringed the limits of Death Metal tolerance but thanks to the music it took on a wider dimension, it exploded outside of rigid frameworks and it reached a level of Metal's artistry.
Once I wondered, how will Metal music evolve? DEMON PROJECT presents one of the directions of the evolution of Metal … I regret that I just now met the band, and they play since 1999, and “Faces of Yaman” is the third album.
