NYKTALGIA is one of those great german underground bands, that create a very special kind of music in a manner, that's only worth to call art. They do that in the very best tradition of bands like ABYSSIC HATE (“Suicidal Emotions”), but also newer stuff like VERDUNKELN, NACHTMYSTIUM, KROHM, maybe you'll find some hints to old swedish stuff like VINTERLAND, SETHERIAL and MÖRK GRYNING also, because of the very melodic songs. But it must be made clear, that NYKTALGIA is very unique, and also very beautiful while celebrating their SuicideBM.

With their selftitled debut “Nyktalgia” they could gain already a lot of attention, but “Peisithanatos” levels itself several steps above it, it is sort of a perfect album. Actually, it is, there is not a single note which you would complain about, there is nothing to find which could have been made better. It is four perfect songs full of beauty in hate and despair, that clock in to a total playing time of about 40 minutes. While the opening track “Nyktalgia” is a very desperate one, with distorted screams in quite fast melodies, “Nekrolog” is more ritualistic, it walkes on in midtempo, with harsh riffing but still very beautiful melodies and ending in a dreamy, longing one, the vocals are almost spoken, not screamed and offered in a deep growling, but emotionally intense voice.

Title song “Peisithanatos” again is pure desperation, fast drummings and crashing cymbals and a demanding theme on quite distorted guitars, and again those desperate screams, for which I love that album for as much as I love it for its amazing melodies. Hate has turned into a deep pain of the soul, which is expressed here, desperation, yearning, pain and torture, crafted into something so amazingly beautiful, that is hard to describe. “Pavor Nocturnus” manages to turn out still a bit more intense, a bit more desperate, it creates a constant creeping upon your skin with its dreamy, world-leaving melodies and those screams, amazing.

Of course, this is sick to the bones and if you are not into SuicideBM you will most likely hate it, but if you are, this is a real revelation for you. I just cant stop listening to it, and to quote a friend of mine: 'it is… wow… I mean… WOW!' and he's right with that. No more words; just get your razorblades, listen and enjoy!
