The group was formed in 1993, by Juha Sulasalmi and Peter Nilsson, after the death of CHORONZON, in which Juha used to play the guitar. After some time, one of the founding fathers (Peter) left the band, and in 1995 the whole squad consolidated, what is interesting, Juha was playing the drums then. Remnants of a Diabolical History is a compilation album, containing the best songs by NOMINON, tracks re-mastered, never before released in such performance.
And that is true, as the material is very powerful and extremely fleshy – it comes straight from under the butchers knife. Pure, bloody power is enclosed in this disc, and when it is released to the daylight, it is too late for the listener. The beginning is kept in a strange climate – as if each song was recorded in different conditions. And that is correct, because the band did not master them according to their recent line up, but took the tracks from previous albums and put in here, after some digital mastering. Towards the end, newer compositions are chosen, therefore the style becomes more consolidated and power becomes its main indicator. Fleshy riffs, master drums and spewing like growl, create a death-like and perverted atmosphere. The ideas do not seem to repeat, therefore no boredom occurs – an excellent material for downstage jumping.
Remnants of a Diabolical History is a partially good album, as the group mixed too much, so that a kind of performance vortex was created, which not always works as a plus. Sometimes the guitars are too silent, sometimes the growl is not heard at all. But at least the content is rich in ideas. One cannot have everything.
