It's hard to describe the sound of Warsaw's ACRIMONIA, mainly because I've never heard such an odd mix coming out of the Polish Metal scene. It's got good, heavy rhythmic doses of Death, but trades in the brutality normally associated with Polish Death, for some jazz and some quite 'funky' stuff. A good mixture of cleaner Progressive Metal vocals and leads as well. “Parasite” is their second release and sees the band trimmed down to a trio from five on their first.

“Underwall” starts us out with some good pounding Death, but with rhythm. The leads are more Prog Metal, but are good. The vocals switch back and forth with clean to growling. “Disaster” has a good driving rhythm also, but we begin to see some heavy jazz influence eminating. It's heavy and seems to jump in and out of the Prog and Death areas. “Non Believer” is a hard driving rhythm with a mixture of clean and death vocals and is one of my favorite tracks, being more towards the death side and “Behind The Door (Satan)” follows the same path, although it get's quite funky in some parts. The rhythm is hard and driving with good drum kicking. It's definitely something different coming out of the scene there. “Madness Time” is a mix of Prog and Death with more good hard driving rhythm and leads that sound more classical Italian. “On High” is a six minute mix of some good rythmic Death that breaks down into good old – fashioned Heavy Metal. The bass gets quite jazzy, and some good drum kicking makes it thrashy. “Don't Fuck With Me”, “Dreams”, and “Nightmare” are more of the jazzy, funky stuff mixed with the same driving, heavy, double bass kicking rhythms that we hear throughout. “Parasite” is my favorite track with a speedy rhythm and rolling thunder drumming and some good Heavy Metal chopping. “Soul” is slow and heavy and “Fallen ” takes us out in good Heavy Metal fashion.

If the brutal Polish Death sound is a bit too noisy, then you'll like this. I tend to more like my Death Metal straight up, but this is certainly a refreshing mix coming from the Polish Death scene.
