The songwriting on Hollow is pretty solid and yet there isnt anything original or fresh available here, just average
Metal riffage and dark lyrics with themes like death, destruction and insanity! One standout track is from
the songwriters point of view is Bloodlust. It features prerecorded voiceover from a man that sounds completely
insane! Other songs that feature noteable lyrics are Death by Deception and Cut and Dry. Both are examples
of the quality of writing that the members of Chainsnap are capable of.
The band, to their credit is not afraid to do actual leads, so many bands nowadays arent doing leads at all anymore,
so when you hear a band who does them, and does them well, its refreshing.
I was pretty disappointed with the sound quality on Hollow. The production quality of the music is sorely lacking,
particularly how the bass and drums were recorded. The drums on all of the tracks sound really horrible! Like they were recorded in a cardboard box! A little quality production could go along way with this band. I found myself having a hard time overcoming the poor sound quality to really enjoy the music. It could be that this is a case of over-production. This band probably really shines with their live performances, too bad it wasn't captured in the studio!
On the bright side the packaging of the CD is stellar and screams METAL! The band includes a nice 4-panel insert with the disc that includes lyrics and a photo collage of the band onstage. The tray below the CD includes credits and shout-outs to bands, websites and radio stations that have been loyal to Chainsnap. Add to that a really cool logo on the cover, and youve got a nice slick Metal product! This band is on the right track they just need a little help turning the knobs.
