Cool Songs: Pluto’s Ovoid Orbit, Ancient Dreams (Candlemass Cover), Selek From Menes

Interesting in a melodic sense of grim intrigue Deinonychus release of Mournument stirs the soul of tormented longings musically. Opening this flooded gateway of expression the harmonious introduction instrumental track Pluto’s Ovoid Orbit kicks off into a eerie atmosphere of doom gloom like qualities almost giving the impression of melodic doom metal with orchestrated metal music symphonies. Carrying this sense of pending disaster in a beautifully wicked sense Mournument itself is a groundbreaking album with various qualities from the variant song structures Deinonychus creates giving an example into tracks The Crimson Tides-Oceans of Soliloquy Pt. 11, Arrival of Mesopotamia and the peculiarly alluring The Obscure Process of Metamorphous. Downside to this album is the recurring elements sound wise that make it hard to distinguish which song ends and which one begins. Maybe it is the slow melodic chord progression of vocalist/guitarist Marco Kehren, for who might consider sticking to his singing and having someone else battles the axe for a while. Something that he might consider in the future. But who knows! But interesting though is the bands approach to a Candlemass cover tune of Ancient Dreams for which is ear catching and done well.

Overall the production exceeds the above average sound for a band of this caliber giving 100% of themselves musically to their music. Besides that this erotically enchanting essence flows as powerfully as the depth of the music itself. If slow dragging guitars, mysterious keyboards and hellishly sung vocal is your thing than Deinonychus is just that.
