AS I LAY DYING „Frail Words Collapse”

AS I LAY DYING „Frail Words Collapse” - okładka

Wow! Could be my reaction when I listened for the first time to AS I LAY DYING. During that time I heard so many different style of Metal
thrown together to make a unique sound not heard of these days.
My ears heard elements of Death, Black, and Thrash Metal, along with the Hardcore and Emo breakdowns that made me wonder why someone had not come up with this sound years ago. I’m sure there is a band or two who have tried it, but to me AS I LAY DYING pulled it off brilliantly.

The Vocals are somewhat screamed barks that force the lyrics deep into your eardrums. There are some actual singing going on in some of the tracks. One particular band stick out as a possible influence, but I will keep that one to myself and let you do the guessing. I will say that if you’re a fan of that unnamed band, You’ll figure it out real quick.
When I first listened to the Cd, it took me awhile to pin-point it, now its your turn. Have fun The Guitars are great on every song. Using different effects and sounds to make for a sound all their own. A lot of heavy riffing, but also plenty of melody during the breakdown sections of the songs. I can just picture some crazy fans going into a frenzy in the moshpit during the breakdown sections of the song.

A very thick sounding Bass is very evident throughout the Cd. I like the Bass work very much. It gives each song a really deep sound adding to the chaos being pushed out by the Guitars.

The Drums are superb from beginning to end. There are some cool beats being kicked out, along with plenty of rolls and fills. I loved to Double Bass work. My only complaint was that at time I felt that during the most fiercest drumming parts, everything else was being drowned out. It seemed to me that they should have turned down the drums a knotch. By no means does this take away from the explosiveness that this band possesses. I just found at time I stained my ears to hear the Guitars but only heard Drums.

By no means is this a bad release . I’d be an idiot to even think that. I’m looking forward to hearing more music from what I feel is a must hear release. One little thing is not going to change my mind, especially when a band like AS I LAY DYING throughout all their musical combinations. I’m looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.
