ROMISLOKUS „s/t”

ROMISLOKUS „s/t” - okładka

Romislokus is a band out of Russia; an area not mentioned much in metal. But I have heard other bands from this country including Nordream, Specter, and various others. I also think Midas Touch (Noise Records) came from nearby surroundings. But anyway, this outfit plays a progressive, jazzy, blend of rock and from the sampling I’ve heard the music is never terribly fast or aggressive, but that is OK! After listening, the musicianship is very tight and some reviewers have related Romislokus to The Flower Kings and Yes (two bands I’ve never really listened to). But one thing is sure; the music is always flowing, consistent and strong.

Lyrically, the words are inspired, but at times could be simplified. For example, this line from come tomorrow: “Come tomorrow and you won't have to buy newspapers to know what was happened to you” could easily be stripped into “Come tomorrow you won't need newspapers to know what’s happened to you”. But other than a few lyrical glitches, this is a solid project from the area you don’t hear about often in the musical world.

I only have five songs here, so it’s only a sampling of their music, so here goes. The CD I heard included track one “Come Tomorrow”, “I’m Tired” was at 2. The third track I’m unsure of the title, but it was a jazzy song with a good flow (it was not sung in English). Track 4, I’m once again unsure of the title and I couldn’t find matching lyrics on their website “maybe I didn’t look hard enough” but the lyrics were singing about the “Wild Life” and “The Animals In The Zoo”. Track six “Tree By The Wall” closed my sampling. All in all, maybe not up to major label standards in terms of lyrics, but a good start.
