AJATTARA „Kuolema”

Music: Melodic Black Metal
Duration: 10 songs (35 minutes)
Cool songs: Antakaa Elää, Ikiyössä and Rauhassa

A friend of mine told me to check them out some time ago, so I did, and I must say I like Ajattara.

Kuolema is the follow up of Ajattara's debut “Itse”, Which was outstanding. This new release kicks off where “Itse” left us, the band still plays melodic black, enhanced with some sort of rock-spirit. The music is slow moving and sometimes very groovy. But Kuolema doesn't seem to have the great atmosphere created on “Itse”. Some songs do reach the level achieved on their debut, but most don't. It's not a bad album, but it misses the touch left on “Itse”.

The better songs on this album are Antakaa Elää, Ikiyössä and Rauhassa. They have good, catchy melodies and better atmospheres. But unfortunately they're less than the average songs on their debute.

If you have never heard of Ajattara, check their dibute and not this new one. Kuolema simply is a little bit too dead to really enjoy, but it still is good stuff, and you should check it out if you like black metal.

note: 7/10
