When is the last time you heard something weird and different that you put it on repeat to catch the weirdness. If that’s long for you, for me it was like an hour before. It was unlike any music I have heard. It’s like blending something from everything. Like the songs have a slow upbeat Pop-ish EDM beats to go with a steady Rapping. The transitions with the integration of the drums make them sound a bit heavier as such like a Rock Band (They are not pure rock tho). If you like what you have read about their sound, you will definitely like this record.

The band that produces that sound is a duo called Snailmate. The duo have established themselves and their weird experimentation well on their debut and sophomore efforts. However the new album, Existential Anxiety is one step ahead of them all in terms of weirdness and experimentation.

‘”Existential Anxiety” is literally a collection of songs about the anxiety that comes with being alive. 4 songs that are as exhilarating and they are depressing; brief and hilarious, like a malfunctioning roller coaster.” – Snailmate

I do like to hear some depressive tunes. First off, not a massive fan of the rapping yet it seems as if it is the only thing that holds everything together. Soaring cleans would take the sound a bit more happier and the screams would’ve destroyed the instrumentation. I hope that is why they chose to go with the Rap part. The rap part does remind of Suicide Boys, a “Cloud” rap duo.

Taking the music alone, they have done a good job ob making it satirical yet the downside of the album is that too much of everything is not working here. You have an eerie Electronic beat to give the song a nice little shake but it doesn’t work well with the drums. It hinders the sound of the drums. And for some reason I could not relate the rap part.

Honestly, I’m not gonna bash the album because it fails at musicianship and mixing because, it is meant to be a fun album to jam. Not a technical 5/6 song arrangement to show off how skilful they really are. And it’s 21st century, people take music more as a hobby than avidly studying it to improve their skills. That being said, I like their sound but many might love it. It is not a big thing for me but you will find some good sound here. Well, come out of Metal and explore something fun. Now that Tool have postponed their release to 2019, take some space and listen to some fun albums.
