The fact that sucks the most about bands like Fluisterwoud is that they are dead. After the disappointment in 2006, the year when the band split up, Fluisterwoud released their album recorded already in 2006 but never published untill 2009. Better late than never, especially when it comes to a good black metal band such as this one.
No doubt a big plus in any band is usage of native language in lyrics, although some parts of black mysteries could stay unrevealed to us if it happens we do not undestand that language. Sometimes this is made consciously with lyrics writen in rare or dead languages and even with unpublished lyrics. In the case of Fluisterwoud it is probably just a preference of Dutch over English (or some other language) and they were surely aware this would put their creation beyond comprehension for the most of their listeners. Not knowing the lyrics well automatically creates a distance between the listener and complete piece of art. So this is the only big minus about this record, which we cannot actually blame Fluisterwoud for but only our own (blissful) ignorance.
Leaving the thematic side of their art and letting Google save the world let us concentrate on the sound. Production is clear, very tolerable to ears, but still unpolished, raw and most importantly – full. The album has no such points as 'loss of power' or 'boredom'. Riffs are strong and variating, reminding mostly to (also dead) Tsjuder and slovenian Somrak (song Kerganger). Vocals are bestial in every moment, medium low scream. Bass and drums are catching and completing the riffs perfectly. Album as a whole takes some time to precisely hear it but it is indeed worth every second it takes. Songs that stick to the listener the most are ťKerkgangerŤ, ťMijn Donker WezenŤ and ťMet De Wind WedergekeerdŤ.
Comparing ťLaat Alle Hoop VarenŤ to Fluisterwoud's previous release ťLangs Galg En RadŤ the second release suffers the lack of intensity and mysteriousness. The production is clearer and the songs are more down to earth.
In ten years of worthy existance Fluisterwoud delivered two admirable records to this genre, which is more we could ever get from the most of the bands. (Maybe) this fallen horde will rise again.
