Greeks metalhreads year by year are surprising me. But how? By a multitude of good metal bands which still comes from the country of ancient gods. Add to this the fact that all Greek bands play sappily, with a melodic hint, and above all brutally, what obviously suits me. Moreover, last year I reviewed debut album of REVOLTING BREED which I consider as totally fuckin awesome cd and I suggest you to sooner or later to obtain it. But that was not that I wanted to write about. Today on the wallpaper we take THE SOURCE …
Once again, a nice surprise. Well, THE SOURCE presents very juicy thrash metal mixed with melodic death metal a'la AT THE GATES (!). Apparently nothing new right? But for originality there might only some few bands able to attempt for, and I think that it is better to play something what suits each member of the band and it is not over own skills, these guys really know about this.. THE SOURCE chosen their own a very simple and aggressive goal – To play awesome blasting metal. Damn, I'm even able to declare that I would like to THE SOURCE was a Polish band (if you are curious Tomek – drummer of THE SOURCE is a pole). To be honest I am really glad to hear such thrashing, and this is just the second listening. Madness.
Chugging riffs, crazy fast tempo, melodic solos. screaming vocalist, occasional blastbeats, like all this was already in Sweden, Germany, Poland, in the U.S., but what about the music when the band actually defends its sels and has identified (in this case positive) emotions, rather then no one from someone who is interested and whether copy other. And in the case of THE SOURCE, they easily can be identified to AT THE GATES, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, KREATOR, or even IN FLAMES – that is, you can indicate them to all lords of metal in general. Keep on going like this.
THE SOURCE certainly knows how to take advantage of other bands and incorporate some elements to their music. Sometimes they do it too obviously and clearly, but this is not for what I will insult them. This is just the first full material so I did not expected something super extraordinary. Nevertheless, I am satisfied and certainly I will come back to this record at least a dozen of times. Are there any weaknesses? Sometimes slightly hinders the production, but who cares. This fucking thrash metal!
