I remember the listening of the first album NO RETURN at 1990 “Psychological Torment”. I felt that I liked this team. Then came the time for the next album “Contamination Rises” from 1992. However, the second album already was more in style of Death Metal and it was less nice for me like their debut. Perhaps for that reason later I forgot about NO RETURN for many years. Yes, sometimes I’ve seen the covers of next albums, although I did not want to listen further albums of NO RETURN. Until today… It is such big surprise for me. A friendly Danish label Mighty Music sent the latest album of NO RETURN. And now the nothing don’t stop me to listen to current creation of the band. Albeit with the original line-up remained the only the guitarist Alain Cl?ment.
The first song “Ascent” very enigmatic and instrumentally introduced me to the music of NO RETURN… The song created a dark atmosphere, which suddenly was interrupted by the aggressive play of further compositions in style of Thrash Death Metal. The sound of vocal is closer towards Death Metal. The vocals manifest themselves by the aggressive and predatory growls. Although sometimes you will hear yelling and screams of backing vocals in Thrash Metal style.
The compositions contain a lot of technical solutions, the rapid guitar riffs densely interwoven by the melodic and virtuosic solos that give the depth and the dark-melancholy climate in the style of DEATH, and even some of them remind the spatial solos from genre of Power Metal. Similarly NO RETURN presents the dynamic and predatory music, at which only these spatial solos give respite. Although there is no lack of sharp solos here, that cause the brain drilling of listener. The whole is devastating, aggressive and yet melodic and atmospheric.
It seems that NO RETURN despite changes of the line-up is in good condition and the band still release their materials with shorter or longer intervals. The album “Fearless Walk To Rise” is excellent.
