PERSEFONE – Wywiad z Carlosem

LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR – Interview with singer, guitarist Steve Rathbone

Forming in 2003, LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR quickly became one of the groups to talk about in the Chicago-area metal scene. The group’s sludge-encrusted sound seemed destined for the doom metal stand out label, Southern Lord Records, which LOTM signed to and released their debut full-length, “Carnage” in 2004. Their mixture of thrash, heavy metal, punk and death metal has placed a toxic yellow highlighter on the group, making the band near-impossible to mistake for another.

With a style as raw and bloody as a cannibal cookout, the Greek Mythology-named band puts the “power” into the term power trio. Producing such a massive sound with only three members is nothing short of fantastic. Those still moved by the attitude, antics and head-banging delight of the mid-eighties bullet belt bands such as SLAYER, POSSESSED and CELTIC FROST will jiz their draws upon hearing LOTM.

LOTM doesn’t just assault ears with tales of bloodlust and primal battle, the group also represents these ideas, in gratuitous details, through video. The title track for LOTM’s last record, “War Metal Battle Master” included graphic scenes of nudity, dismemberment and cannibalism. Their latest album “Evil Power” follows suite with satanic imagery, boobs, blood and guts and a person wearing a real bull head-and-horns.

ZONARIA – Interview with Simon Berglund

Zonaria, formed in 2002, has proved its potential between countless death metal bands in Sweden already with the debut album Infamy and the Breed. After just three years, all fans are eagerly awaiting the release of their third, so far nameless opus. The band is right now on the tour supporting its Swedish fellows Dark Funeral, and their Easter Sunday's stop in my hometown was a perfect opportunity to make an interview. The singer/guitarist Simon took a break from his busy schedule and answered few my questions.

CEREBRUM – Interview with Apollon & Mike

The Greeks CEREBRUM are a new addition to technical death metal waters. The band, formed in 2004, has released its debut album “Spectral Extravagance” last year, bringing thus some very needed fresh air into this crowded genre. Not only influenced by metal music, CEREBRUM are not afraid to show us their way of perception of music and life. The singer Apollon Zygomalas and guitarist Mike Papadopoulos were so kind as to answer few my questions.

CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED – Interview with drummer Richard Christy

Listeners of the HOWARD STERN show know Richard Christy as the prankster interviewer who took over Stuttering John’s job. Those of the metal world know Christy as the dynamic drummer who came out of nowhere to help Chuck Schuldiner complete the final DEATH album, and then man the kit for Chuck’s power metal group, CONTROL DENIED. Since the untimely death of Schuldiner, Christy played on a couple of ICED EARTH albums before leaving the music biz for the STERN show.

After a five-year hiatus from recording metal, Christy called up a few friends to form a new band, CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED. CHARRED is a metal fan’s wet dream, featuring a star-studded lineup consisting of ex-JUDAS PRIEST howler Tim “Ripper” Owens and bass player extraordinaire Steve DiGiorgio. Both artists played with Christy in ICED EARTH. Christy chose Jason Suecof as the group’s guitarist. Better known as the producer of famous modern metal acts such as TRIVIUM, Suecof delivers pure guitar shred as well as recording and producing CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED.

On the verge of his first release in over a half decade, an excited Christy called Metal Centre to give us the low down on his return and the making of what will prove one of the great albums in 2010.
