The music of this band is tightly protected from a light… I received a mysterious package from Lithuania… In a tightly, metallic envelope with another black envelope inside. I opened it carefully, not knowing what was inside… On the inside of the black envelope there was an inscription: “There is no light in your window anymore – you´ve been visited by Sullen Guest.” …

So SULLEN GUEST brought a gloomy and dark mood with their third material. The only light that shines comes from the candle held by the figure on the cover art of the album…

I remember how in the 90’s this type of music, combining Doom Metal with Death Metal, had as many supporters as opponents. Metal music was supposed to be aggressive and fast, and then suddenly there were bands that showed that you can play very heavy but also sluggishly… Aggressively but also melodious. They also showed that emotions of sadness, grief or despair as well as melancholy can go hand in hand with anger and rage. And yet these emotions are not alien to us. And while listening to Doom Death Metal we delve into them even more, we even are sunk in them…

And such also is the album. And such are the tracks… Dark and slow flowing and crushing with their heaviness, and at the same time melodic funerally, accompanied by emotional growling and screams (less often clean melodiclamations).

It’s safe to say that the songs are classic in their genre. They present famous patents on Doom Death Metal… Overwhelming powerful riffs. This specific depressive melody enchanted in the guitar soles. This peculiar aggression, which at times manifests itself in emotional turmoil and short outbursts… And this typical gloomy funeral-melancholic atmosphere…

I always compare this type of band to MY DYING BRIDE. SULLEN GUEST definitely follows their path. Except that the violin is a characteristic feature of MY DYING BRIDE. And SULLEN GUEST only shyly used the flute in one track. It’s a pity that it’s only in one track.

I think they could stand on same stage together with MY DYING BRIDE.
