NIHILRAGE is the Spanish fury that was born over two years ago in Navarra. Their 5-track EP is the first manifestation of this rage. The material was self-released. However, it seems that when the Blood Fire Death promotion agency took them under their wing, the cover-art was changed, which is now more eye-catching than just something showing through the branches of the trees.
The music contained in the material is solid Death Metal, largely in old-school style, heavy, motoric, with delicate melodies and short dark solo accents, without exaggerated foreign-genre accents. Well, maybe some short music phrases or vocal parts are close to Black Metal and Black screams. But of course Death Metal and the monstrous growls rule here.
The team focuses on crushing heaviness and climate rather than on ultra-speed. And they also like some rhythmic, even progressive variations. Therefore, there is no shortage of sudden, short and brilliant accelerations. Although the moderate, very rhythmic speeds are the basis with a tendency to the crushing decelerations. In any case, the double foot of drum-bass is densely used here, and the snare drum hits are among those at slower intervals. And in combination with the various passages on the percussion, this creates a strong and powerful atmosphere.
And there is “Intro”! The atmospheric pure-guitar prelude mysteriously introduces the listener to powerful Death Metal music. I notice that recently more and more bands are returning to these patents from years ago and using intros or outros. Such motifs really were influenced the listeners. And not only introduced or ended some album or underline mood, but often inspired to broaden musical horizons.
