Progressive Death Metal is probably one of my least favorite genres of Metal. The reason being the unwanted intros and interludes to pretend that they make something complex enough for the masses, In fact, I’ve never seen any band trying to get past that boundary except for some exceptions like Vektor, Virvum, and Anata. I love my Progressive sound to be different and unique. My search for uniqueness introduced me to the “Extreme Progressive Art” Deconstructing Sequence.

DS’s sound is an amalgamation of Melodic Prog sound and the theatrics to make a sci-fi feel going around the album. Their sound is unique and this is the first time I’m hearing groovily danceable parts in Metal. The songs do have crushing parts. The spoken words are evident and you might have guessed it since this is a concept art.

Their album has an affinity towards Brutal Death as the heavy blast beats shatter the song and hence creating a hard-hitting sound backed with Agro-Industrial synths. Actually, my favorite Slam/Brutal Death Metal Dripping did the same but ina right way. The only letdown in Deconstructing Sequence’s instrumentation is their drumming. Drums sound way too programmed which make the blast beats sound a bit off the listenable boundary. I know, they try to take on BDM but they can’t do it with the drumming parts sounding like that.

Even though, I didn’t enjoy the drumming much, after a few listens it seems as if the drum parts matches the synths played in the background. If only they would have had a polished sound, it would have hidden the passive synth parts. Can’t say they did an excellent job but they did finish their job well by giving each instrument its part.

Overall, this album is pretty good and fresh for a brand new death metal band. Their take on Death Metal is very unique and it reminds me of Dripping which is a good thing. Next time around, I expect them to have a wiser setting for the drums as its the only thing that’s holding back in their sound.
