ALIGN THE TIDE – interview with the band

Align the tide was formed back in September of 2015, through the experimentation with a number of different potential members, styles and influences, resulting in the unique nu-metal sound you hear today. From that point on, Align The Tide’s compositions crossed the genres of thrash, groove & melodic metal, each member’s musical background influencing the bands sound in their own way. I had a chance to talk with these young talented musicians. Here is how it went

Your latest full length Dead Religion was released on August. Would you like to share the story behind it’s occurrence and the responses you’ve been getting for it?

We wanted to create a first album which hugely describes our wide range of styles and influences, while also hoping to make it a huge thing as our debut release. We’ve been getting loads of positive comments and hype from our listeners and naturally received some criticism along the way

How do you describe your music to people?

It’s got that ‘break-shit’ vibe together with an in your face attitude which won’t make the listener doubt to bang their heads. We don’t label ourselves under any type of genre, however people are open to intrerpret the music any way they want.

Danny, I heard that you’ve been working with Kyle for more than 9 years or so. How do you feel like you’ve evolved as an artist over the years working with him?

Over the past 9 years i’ve seen a very big difference in both us, kyle and I. I’ve gradually improved as a drummer over the years for instance after 5 years of playing with him i decided to pick up the double pedal and up until now still learning new techniques. Who knows what new technique i’ll use in our next album.

Would you rather prefer writing a Solo, or a Breakdown?

We prefer breakdowns hands down, it gives us more feel into the song although we like some killer solos sometimes.

Tell me about the biggest mistake you ever made at work and what did you do about it?

Danny’s job is delivering laundry detergents and one time he wrote ‘Align The Tide’ on every box he delivered and his boss got a complaint about it from certain shops.

Out of all the places that you’ve played so far with the band, where was Align The Tide  met with the best reception?

The best show we’ve had was actually our debut show at Razzet L-Ahmar in Malta and second comes in our debut album launch, the place was packed!

What is the most embarrassing thing to happen to you on tour?

We’ve actually never toured till now but we have our first ever tour in November 2017 so we’ll see after that!

Do you guys have any guilty pleasure when it comes to listening to non-metal?

Kyle: Drake
Danny: Nelly
Alston: Post Malone
Gabriel: Die Antwoord

If you were to collaborate with any artists irrespective of their genre, Who would you like to collaborate with and Why?

Kyle: Corey Taylor, because he’s versatile when it comes from screams, growls and clean singing, so I think that for a song by us featuring him would suit his vocal style as well as complementing ours.

Danny: Slash, I’ve always been a fan since i was a little kid and i’ve always liked his sound and technique he uses so i’ve always wondered how i’d sound and create collaborating with that guy.

Alston: Buckethead, cause he’s weird and unique.

Gabriel: Alex Webster, I could learn a thing or two from that guy besides Cannibal Corpse are bloody amazing.

What is the best platform to find your music? Do you prefer a specific site? Also, anything in the works as far as new releases go?

We suggest Spotify cause it’s easy, and for now we’re just planning on touring as much as we could.

Thank You for sparing some of your valuable time giving us an Interview. On behalf of Metal Centre Crew, I wish you all the best for future. Cheers!

Thank you very much for this opportunity, it was some great fun! 🙂
