Mathcore is a rare sub-genre of Metalcore which uses complex time signatures and out of the world guitar passages to keep the listeners hooked to the extreme euphony behind them. With not many bands executing this genre, as it is tough to incorporate the riffs at the right time to nail the transitions-Today I will be showcasing one such act who execute this genre perfectly. Without much teasing, Save Us From The Archon is the band that I am talking about. Save Us From The Archon is an Experimental Metal outfit based out on Pittsburgh. Taking a huge Math Metal influences and incorporating it with dissonant prog guitar riffs, this Mathcore act was formed in the year 2012.

Melancholia is all about Melody and Dissonant Guitar riffing. With insane euphony in each track, one doesn’t stop listening to the tracks for once. Before writing this review I completed the album 3 or 4 times, which in my opinion is less compared to the amount of time I spent on listening to their masterpiece Fear Eats Soul. Starting off as a Progressive Metal Act, the band came up with a decision to mature their sound which they did on 2012, evolving their sound into Mathcore Instrumental Outfit. With songs like Thread Between and Trancing Nostalgia, showcasing insane progressive song structure-It is not at all surprising to state that boys over SUFTA still keep Progressive Metal as one among their main influence. All I Want is Light is just minute long but the amount of melody going into it is Infinite and the ambient textures make the song even more harmonic and stunning. The album sets up a solid benchmark with the first set of songs being perfect, the back end of the album is as good as the foundation laid at the beginning. Catchy guitar passages intertwined with steady drumming holds the album together without letting it fall. To Find Clarity reflects this, as it is my favourite track from the entire record.

Melancholia is a stunning record which will fascinate almost all of the Prog Snobs out there. With the added Math Metal influents keeping the record more Complex and Technical, SUFTA scored high on this album. However as a fan I do consider Fear Eats Soul as my favourite one but Melancholia is undoubtedly my second favourite album. These Math Metal giants have a good future ahead, with a promising fresh sound to help them reach higher levels. Why add a Vocalist if you can tell a story through intense melody!  Pre order your copy today, I doubt you will be dissapointed of this album. Melancholia drops worldwide on August 18th.
