KATAKOMBI from Helsinki released their second material on vinyl. Such a procedure is becoming more and more in vogue, and it is primarily a cult…
Ep, which is presented by the Finns consists of 3 songs contained in 26 minutes… The first track “Vaara kuu” introduces us to the style of noise-industrial presenting the electronic-monotonous sound, which after a few moments passed in a slow sludge-doom playing – the heavy, with the psychedelic melodic breath and the ominous whispers with a touch of growl. This mysterious synth-electric sound (from the begining of track) sometimes is still in the background. And the guitars sometimes pass in the quiet, psychedelic passages, and the vocals to sharper shrieks. But the whole is maintained at a slow pace with the short microscopic accelerations. In addition, the guitar’s noises, squeaks and squeals sometimes fill the background of the song…
After the first song is the silence to give a place to “Liejuhaudan vanki”. This composition is slightly faster and more dynamic at the beginning… because after a few minutes there is the slowdown almost in dark ambient style that with the help of the mysterious sounds of guitar introduces the listener in the psychedelic-trance mood… and after the moments it returns to the sludge-doom regions full of the psychedelic distorted guitar sounds, the slow drum beats and the aggressive screams…
The last composition “Sokea jumala” is probably the most dynamic, but only from the beginning. Traditionally, after some time there appears dark and psychedelic slowdown, which mesmerizes the listener and it pushes him into the vortex of slow and heavy music reinforced by the black screams…
The whole is very dark, psychedelic, kept in slow and very slow tempos but also is predatory and heavy with elements of Dark Ambient, Drone, Noise and Industrial. But it still is Sludge Doom Metal, which sometimes reminded me of EYEHATEGOD and SAW THROAT (from the album “Indestroy”).
